CSA Speaker Prof. Leszek Balcerowicz received Milton Friedman Prize for Advancing Liberty

[CSA Celebrity Speakers GmbH - 06.06.2014] The leading economist, Former Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister of Poland, Leszek Balcerowicz received the 2014 Milton Friedman Prize for Advancing Liberty on 21st May 2014.

Leszek Balcerowicz has been honored due to his significant contribution concerning the economic change of Poland. He liberalized the prices of most consumer goods and initiated sound fiscal and monetary measures designed to balance the budget and end hyperinflation. "Leszek Balcerowicz's contributions to the advancement of liberty and free markets in Eastern Europe cannot be overstated. Poland now serves as a model that other countries may follow in transitioning from socialism to a humane economy based on individual responsibility and the rule of law." (John A. Allison, President and CEO of the CATO Institute).

The prize has been delivered by Garry Kasparov, former chess champion, during a dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York.

Leszek Balcerowicz is a pioneer of radical reforms who has been at the centre of Poland's economic and political life since 1989. Having been three times in government in charge of economic reforms, he is acclaimed as the architect of his country's economic growth and as a leader of free market economy. In Poland he received the highest honor of Poland, the Order of the White Eagle.

The Milton Friedman Prize for Advancing Liberty is the leading international award for outstanding achievements to advancing individual liberty.
