[ENERTRAG - 17.01.2012] Green hydrogen in the gas network:
ENERTRAG signs supply agreement with Greenpeace Energy
Dauerthal, Germany, 17 January 2012.
A milestone for power-to-gas: In future, the ENERTRAG hybrid power plant will feed green hydrogen directly into the German natural gas network. This is based on an exclusive supply agreement between ENERTRAG, with headquarters in Dauerthal, Brandenburg, and Greenpeace Energy eG, from Hamburg. The agreement signed today specifies the procurement of up to 400 MWh of hydrogen for 2012, and a quantity of 1.2 GWh was agreed from next year.
The connection to the gas network required for this is already at an advanced planning stage and will be implemented by the end of this year in the immediate vicinity of the hybrid power plant. This makes ENERTRAG hydrogen part of proWindgas, an environmentally-friendly gas product from Greenpeace Energy, which is already available now.
Werner Diwald, Director at ENERTRAG: "We are proud to contribute to accelerating the conversion of the German energy industry to renewable sources with this agreement. Feeding hydrogen into the gas network is an approach to the main challenge of storing renewable energy, while also reducing the required expansion of the electric grid. Power-to-gas is necessary for the energy revolution and makes its implementation possible.”
