Wincor Nixdorfs second sustainability report for fiscal year 2011/2012 (Oct. 1, 2011 through Sept. 30, 2012) has also been awarded the top rating of A+ from the Global Research Initiative (GRI). The first report presented for fiscal year 2011/2011 was already awarded the coveted A+ rating. The GRI standard for certifying sustainability reports is regarded as the most widely recognized standard worldwide.
In addition to this, Wincor Nixdorf subjected its sustainability report to a DQS (German organization for management systems certification) audit. The successful DQS audit is the prerequisite for winning a "+" after the A, the highest rating to be awarded by GRI. The GRI standard was established in 1997 in partnership with the United Nations Environment Program as an international standard for sustainability reporting.
GRI assessed Wincor Nixdorfs sustainability report with reference to the three central areas: ecology, economy and social aspects. In the process, it used over 100 indicators to measure the transparency of all aspects of sustainability. Indicators and qualitative information about the economic, ecological and social aspects of the companys processes, products and services were considered.
Wincor Nixdorfs second sustainability report documents the companys successful efforts in the area of sustainability: By establishing competence centers in the fields of the environment, safety and social responsibility, Wincor Nixdorf aims to anchor commitment to sustainability more firmly into the companys organization. In addition, the content of the corporate mission statement and various Group documents such as process descriptions, guidelines, the Code of Conduct and the Management Manual has been expanded to include sustainability aspects. Wincor Nixdorf has also adopted sustainability principles applicable across the Group in order to boost awareness of sustainability among the employees and support them in their daily actions. Idea management also plays an important role: During the reporting period, the employees at Wincor Nixdorf submitted more than 1,300 ideas with both an economic, as well as an ecological and social benefit.
